Addie (Luce) Hurt, 74, of the Longtown area near Eufaula, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2010, at Saint John’s Medical Center in Tulsa.
The family will receive visitors from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Bishop Funeral Service.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Bishop Chapel of Memories with Dr. John Breon officiating. Burial will be at Masonic Section of Oak Hill Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.
Born Nov. 24, 1935, in Green Sea, S.C., she was the daughter of Porter Stanley and Thelma Francis Shelly Hooks. She graduated from Loris High School in Loris, S.C. and later the South Carolina Baptist Hospital College for Nurses where she earned her registered nurses degree.
She began working for Conway Hospital where she met Jack O. Hurt. He was a volunteer fireman and brought a patient into the emergency room where he was asked to leave by her, the emergency room nurse. He later returned to the hospital and asked her out on a date. They later married on Sept. 26, 1968, in Charleston, S.C.
They moved to the McAlester area where she began working at Warren Clinic. She retired in 2008 as the director of nurses, working for more than 30 years. She returned to the clinic later to assist in the training of the new director of nurses. She also worked part time for Cecilia’s Fashions and Margaret’s Hallmark.
She was a member of PEO and the Eufaula First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed visiting with her friends and fishing.
Survivors include her daughter, Meredith (Bunny) and Shane Raleigh, of Savanna; their children, Ryan Compton, Kelby Compton, Cason Compton, Destiny Raleigh and Harley Raleigh, of Savanna.
Also, brother, Porter Leneau Hooks, Gilbert, S.C.; three sisters, Jean Hooks Chestnut, Longs, S.C., Nancy Hooks Hornsby, Sumter, S.C., and Francis Hooks Pooser and husband, Gerald, Charleston.
And, a sister-in-law, Patricia Prater, of McAlester, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Porter and Thelma Hooks; her husband, Jack Hurt, in 2008, and two brothers, Paul Franklin Hooks and Dale Stanley Hooks.
Pallbearers will be Shawn O’Brien, Craig Compton, Mike Verner, Stephen J. Riddel, M.D., Paul Bishop and Ron Wilson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Clifton Price, Ronnie Wilson and Leroy M. Milton, M.D.
