Bob Ellison

Bob Ellison, 75, of Russellville, Ark.

McALESTER — Bob Ellison, 75, of Russellville, Ark., died Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, while attending deer camp in Logan County.

Visitation will be from 4:30 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Greg Sykes officiating. Military honors will be provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Rogers-Rye Post No. 2283. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.

Born March 31, 1937, in LeFlore County, he was the son of Ora Nola Thompson Ellison and Clayton Ellison. He graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in industrial engineering.

He served 17 years in the military, reaching the rank of major in the United States Army.

He owned and operated retail grocery stores for more than 30 years in the Russellville and Dardanelle, Ark. area.

He served on numerous boards including the Salvation Army Board, the Russellville City Corp Board and Harris Baking Company Board.

He was a member of Russellville Chamber of Commerce for many years and during his years in business was always involved in community projects.

Before suffering some extended health issues, his favorite things to do were fishing and hunting. He could no longer hunt, but still enjoyed the camaraderie with all the guys at camp.

Survivors include his wife, Becky Ellison; two daughters and sons-in-law, Felicia and Melvin Hegwood Jr., of Benton, Ark., and Shannon and Todd Gardecki, of Little Rock, Ark.; a stepson and his wife, Ronnie and Catherina Miller, all of Nederland, Texas.

Also, nine grandchildren, Mayzie Miller, of Russellville, Michaela and Sarah Faith, of Little Rock, Alex Frontera, Mel III and Jackson Hegwood, all of Benton, and Grasyn and Kaidyn Miller and Alex Daubenheyer, all of Nederland.

And, his mother, Nola Rouse, of McAlester; two sisters, Billye Brown, and Sherri and her husband, Joe Breeden, all of McAlester, and numerous other family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clayton Ellison, and his stepfather, Leon Rouse.
