Joe Fisk dies at 85

McALESTER — Joe Fisk, 85, of Haileyville, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, in McAlester.

Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Friday before the funeral.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Brumley-Mills Chapel in Hartshorne with the Rev. Wendell  Brown officiating. Burial will be at Bache-Red Oak Cemetery in Bache. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of Hartshorne.

Born Aug. 16, 1927, in Sand Lake, Mich., he was the son of Arthur and Lera (Vangilder) Fisk. He was raised and received his education in Sand Lake.

He entered military service and served in the United States Army from Nov. 14, 1945, until he was honorably discharged on Jan. 16, 1947, at Fort Sheridan, Ill.

After his military service, he returned home and married Donna May Wert on Aug. 25, 1947, in Cedar Springs, Mich. He worked on the family dairy farm and also worked in the logging business in Michigan.

The family later moved to West Cliff, Colo. where he owned and operated a sawmill for many years  and built log cabins.

In 1991, that he retired and they came to Haileyville, where he operated a small engine repair shop.

He enjoyed fishing and tinkering with new ideas with machinery.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Fisk, of the home; two daughters, Valerie Ward, of Haileyville, and Victoria Foster, of Wilburton; one son, Joe Fisk, of Missouri; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Lera Fisk; five brothers; one sister; granddaughter, Laurie Foster; infant son, Orlean Fisk Jr.; and two sons-in-law, Ronald Foster and Wayne Ward.

Pallbearers will be Dustin Fisk, Les Foster, John Luke Foster, Eric Barns and Ryan Liess.

Honorary pallbearers will be Elden Kitchel, Doug Ward, Herman Colvard and Johnny Williams.
