Lela Agnes Bond

Lela Agnes Bond, 88, of McAlester, died Monday, July 27, 2009, at McAlester Regional Health Center.

The family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home of McAlester.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Chaney’s Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Marvin Dunn officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in McAlester. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home of McAlester.

Born March 30, 1921, in Benton, Ark., she was the daughter of Tom and Mittie (Smith) Delozier. She married John Landers Bond in January 1942, in McAlester.

She was a homemaker and worked as a nurse at McAlester General Hospital. Upon retiring, she did private duty nursing.

She enjoyed going to Church and taught Sunday School class for many years. She was of the Pentecostal faith.

Her hobbies were reading her bible, playing the piano and singing.

Survivors include three children, Ruby Charlene Watts and husband, George, of McAlester, Martha Elizabeth Kennedy, of Midwest City, and John Landers Bond Jr. and wife, Sheila, of Owasso; grandchildren, Debbie C. Watts, of Tulsa, Michelle Murphy and husband, Pat, of New Castle, Michael Kennedy, of Midwest City, Melanie Black and husband, Damon, Hackett, Ark., Melissa Kennedy, of Midwest City, Jason Bond and wife, Sarah, of Broken Arrow, and Stephanie Bond, of Owasso.

Also, great-grandchildren, Morgan Elizabeth Murphy, Mikayla Elaine Murphy, Kennedy Noel Lee Black and Kristian Mikki Lin Black; sisters, Evelee Brown, Kilgore, Texas, Marie Fryer, of McAlester, Barbara Cotton and husband, David, Van, Texas, and Patricia “Pat” Burns, of McAlester, and numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband John L. Bond; parents, Tom and Mittie Delozier; sisters, Iva Edwards and Betty Jo Delozier; brother, Tommy Delozier, and three brothers-in-law, Amos Brown, Bill Fryer and Ron Burns.

Pallbearers will be Jim Logsdon, Joe Edwards, Loy Durbin and Orville Dunn.
