Ada Inez Phillips

McALESTER — Ada Inez Phillips, 92, of McAlester, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, at Mitchell Manor Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Chaney’s Memorial Chapel with Pastor Clint Gray officiating. Burial will be at Red Oak City Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home of McAlester.

Born June 19, 1920, in Red Oak, she was the daughter of Zelmer Brooks and Alma (Eaves) Brooks. She was raised and received her schooling in Red Oak, graduating as valedictorian from Red Oak High School in 1940.  

She married Earl Phillips on April 20, 1941, in Spiro, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 28, 1988.

She was a member of Red Oak Baptist Church.

She enjoyed bowling and going fishing, but never ate what she caught. She enjoyed visiting with her friends and family. She worked as a seamstress for several years.    

Survivors include her son, Ernest Phillips, Yelm, Wash.; grandsons, Kyle Phillips and wife, Kerrie, Yelm, and Jeffry Phillips and wife, Jazmine, Lynnwood, Wash.; great-grandchildren, Curtis, Austin, Taylor and Sarah Phillips.

Also, brother, Benny Brooks, of Red Oak; sister-in-law, Wanda Brooks, of Krebs; special friends, Ethel Perry, of Red Oak, Joyce and Charlie Hale, of McAlester, Roy and Betty Salyers, of McAlester, and Gloria Sirmans, of Hartshorne, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Zelmer and Alma Brooks; husband, Earl Phillips; sisters, Ola Coffer, Freda Phillips and Rena Beshears; brothers, Clarence Brooks, Calvin Brooks, Franklin Brooks and infant brother, Zelmer Jr., and daughter-in-law, Arlene Phillips.

Pallbearers will be Gary Brooks, Fred Oller, Ron Phillips, Kyle Phillips, Jeff Phillips and Benny Brooks.

Honorary pallbearers will be Roy Salyers and Charlie Hale.
