McALESTER —
Mary Ellen Chumley, 85, of McAlester, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, in McAlester.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery with Steve Weeks officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.
Born March 22, 1927, in Clemscott, she was the daughter of Ples and Sallie Foster Davis. Later, her family moved to Devine, Texas where she completed high school.
She worked as a display designer and later as a book keeper for Sears – Roebuck in San Antonio, Texas. While working she met and later married Clayton F. Chumley on Nov. 10, 1945, in Texas.
With her husband working in the oil field business, they traveled a number of places before moving to Hobart in 1957. They raised their children in Hobart and they opened Chumley’s Used Cars and later the Dairy Bar Restaurant, where they worked for more than 25 years until their retirement. For a short while they moved back to Texas and in 1985 they moved to McAlester to be near their children.
She was member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary, Post 1098. She enjoyed flower gardening, painting and had an art for restoring old photographs on the computer.
Survivors include children and spouses, Bobby W. Chumley, of McAlester, Donald L. Chumley, of McAlester, Sandra K. and Kurt Tryon, of McAlester, Shawn M. and Petra Chumley, of McAlester, and Tamara D. and Brad Collins, of McAlester; three bothers; six sisters and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband and a sister.
Pallbearers will be Bob Chumley, Don Chumley, Shawn Chumley, Kurt Tryon, Brad Collins and Anthony Campana.
