McALESTER —
Curtis R. Willie, 65, of Kiowa, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, in Kiowa.
Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Bishop Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Chris Symes officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.
Born Feb. 8, 1948, in Caddo, he was the son of Raymond and Mary Beulah (Phillips) Willie. He grew up in Pittsburg County receiving his education at Savanna High School.
Following graduation, he served a short time in United States Army Reserves before entering the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged in September 1970.
He then furthered his education, receiving a degree in radio/TV broadcasting from Kiamichi Technology Center. He also achieved an associate’s in electronics communication from Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton.
He would eventually begin a 27 year career as a bomb inspector with the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant. He retired in 2007.
He married Shirley Rhae LeClair on April 1, 1973.
He enjoyed living in the country, where he could spend time with his friends and family. He was fond of four-wheeling and just piddling around the house.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Willie, of the home; sons, Derek Willie, of McAlester, and Eric Chambless, Colorado Springs, Colo.
Also, grandchildren, Devon Willie and Dominick Willie, of McAlester, Ariel Willie, of Savanna, Tristin Willie and Asilin Willie, Jackson, Wyo., and Michael Dylan Willie, Cave Junction, Ore.; godson, Dylan Green, Frank Chambers; great-granddaughter, Bella Shad, of Savanna.
And, two brothers, Cloyce Willie, of Kiowa, and Hollis Willie, of Kiowa; sister-in-law, Lynda LeClair, Houson, Texas; brother-in-law, Dennis Young, of Kiowa; nephews, L.C. Willie, of Tennessee, and John Young, of Kiowa; niece, Christi Morrow and husband, Bill, of Kiowa; special friend, June Kelly, of Savanna, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Curtis Dylan Willie; sister, Catha Young, and sisters-in-law, Barbara Willie and Linita LeClair.
Memorials may be made to Carson’s Closet c/o Kiowa Public Schools.
