McALESTER —
Edna Earl (Utterback) Tannehill, 85, of McAlester, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, in McAlester.
The family will greet visitors today from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services are Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the Bishop Chapel of Memories in McAlester with Don Smith and David Stanfield officiating. Burial will follow at the Tannehill Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Home of McAlester.
Born July 19, 1927, in McAlester, she was the daughter of Earl and Nettie (McCully) Utterback. She was a 1945 graduate of McAlester High School. She was united in marriage to James E. “JET” Tannehill on June 8, 1947, in McAlester, and they established their home in Pittsburg County.
She was a long-time personal secretary to J.G. Puterbaugh at the McAlester Fuel Company. In 1962, she and her husband opened Jet Tire Service on North Main in “Old Town” McAlester where she remained active as the bookkeeper.
She and her husband were avid collectors of antiques and McAlester’s history. Their passion for collecting later became known as the Tannehill Museum. She hosted museum tours to numerous students and visitors over the last forty years.
She was baptized in the Second Baptist Church of McAlester where she remained very active. She served as the church clerk for over 40 years. She was also a member the General Federation of Women’s Clubs — McAlester Fortnightly, for over forty years, where she held several offices including past director. She enjoyed arts and crafts and created many beautiful works of art over the years including ceramics, crocheting, knitting and oil paintings.
She is survived by two sons, James Tannehill, of McAlester, and Jerry Tannehill and wife, Stephanie, of McAlester; a special friend, Marilyn Wadley, of McAlester; grandsons, Jake and Jason Tannehill, both of McAlester; and a brother, James B. “Jim” Utterback and wife, Jimmie Ann, of McAlester.
Also, sisters-in-law, Pauline Tannehill, of Tulsa, and Deyne Tannehill, of McAlester; nieces and nephews, Tom Freeman and wife, Mary Lou, of McAlester, Dick Freeman and wife, Janet, of Sherman, Texas, Larry Freeman and wife, Donna, of Arden, N.C., Sam Utterback and wife, Katie, of McAlester, James W. Utterback and wife, Karrie, of Seminole, Annette Sillmon and husband, Ronnie, of Krebs, and Janelle Peters and husband, Howard, of McAlester; and numerous great nieces and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. “JET” Tannehill; her parents, Earl and Nettie Utterback; a sister, Betty Ann Freeman; and a brother, Robert “Bob” Utterback.
Pallbearers are J.D. Burrows, Steve Burrows, Randy Roden, Raymond Brock, Nick Barone and Bob Burrows.
Honorary pallbearers are Alton Smith, Fred Morrison, Roy Baskin, Bob Borella and Johnny Harmon.
