McALESTER —
George Richard Tunning, 83, of McAlester, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, in McAlester.
Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Life Church of McAlester with Pastor Terren Anderson officiating.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.
Born Oct. 2, 1929, in Chicago, he was the son of Robert and Irene (Roberts) Tunning. He grew up in the Chicago area and served in the U.S. Army from March 30, 1951, to March 31, 1953, and was honorably discharged in Fort Banks, Mass.
He married Dorothy Mae Brown on Aug. 4, 1951, in Aiken, S.C. They established their home in Arizona where he owned and operated a heating and air conditioning business. Looking for a change in scenery, they moved to McAlester to make their home.
While in McAlester, he enjoyed a long career with Kiamichi Technology Centers. He worked there as both an instructor and network administrator and was a friend and mentor to many of his colleagues. He retired only a few years ago at the age of 80.
He enjoyed working on and fixing things, especially tinkering with his computers. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Tunning, of the home; son, Rick Tunning, of Arizona; son, Darrell Tunning, of China; daughter, Gail Tunning Disburg, of South Dakota; daughter, Deborah Taylor, of Georgia, and sister, Virginia Terrell, of Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Tunning and Irene (Roberts) Tunning; brother, Robert “Bob” Tunning; sister, Dolores Tunning; sister-in-law, Mary Salazar, and son-in-law, Kevin Disburg.
