McALESTER — Richard Wesley White, 93, of McAlester, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at the Oklahoma Veterans Center, Talihina.
The family will greet friends at Bishop Funeral Service today between 6 and 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at New Hope Free Will Baptist Church, Indianola, officiated by the Rev. Freddie Morrison.
Interment will follow at Indianola Cemetery with military honors given by Robert B. Thomas Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1098.
Funeral services are under direction of Bishop Funeral Service.
Born on Dec. 31, 1918, in Hartshorne, he was the son of William Edward and Lucy Mae Massengale White.
He attended schools in the Hartshorne area.
He played college baseball in Arizona and was a member of the Arizona All Stars.
He taught math and shop at Carl Albert Junior College in Poteau.
He served overseas in the U.S. Army from 1944 until 1945. He was honorably discharged.
He was a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge in Poteau.
He was a block and bracer at the United States Naval Ammunitions Depot for more than 20 years.
He is survived by his children, Richard White, Jr.; Barbara Barnett; David White and wife, Linda, all of Selma, Ore.; Gloria McClish and husband, Jim, of Oologah; Francis Eldridge and husband, Charlie, of Indianola; Jackie Jones, of Gordo, Ala; Mike White and wife, Linda, of McAlester; sister, Ruth Casciaro, of Stockton, Calif.; and numerous grandchildren, great-greatchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Helen Ruth White; grandson, Jimmy Lee Wright; sisters, Edith Maggard, Lois Young, and Joceil Buttress; and, brothers, John Daily, Jim Daily and Jack White.
Pallbearers will be all the family members.
