Jimmie L. Johnston, 78, of Ashland

McALESTER — Jimmie L. Johnston, 78, of Ashland, died Monday, July 30, 2012, in Ashland.

The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Bishop Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Ashland First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Gantt officiating. Burial will be at the Ashland Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.

Born Sept. 26, 1933, in Ashland, he was the son of Jones Willard and Ellen Akin Johnston. He grew up in Ashland and attended schools there. He graduated from Ashland High School.

He then joined the United States Army and was stationed in Colorado. He was discharged after three years of service.

He married Loretta Smart on April 25, 1952. He began working as a mechanic with his father and brother at a shop they had on the home place. In 1964 he began working at Rockwell as a machinist.

He was a member of Ashland First Baptist Church and was very active with the Ashland Cemetery over the years.

Survivors include one daughter, Carol Johnston and Clyde Menasco, of Ashland; one son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Lisa Johnston, of Frink Chambers.

Also, four grandchildren, Mandy and Brent Horn, of Ashland, Matthew and Shelby Johnston, of North Dakota, Luke Johnston, of Ada, and Rhyan Johnston, of Ashland.

And, two great-grandchildren, Johnathan Horn, of Ashland, and Tanner Horn, of Ashland; a sister, Barbara Clifton, of Scipio; a brother and sister-in-law, George and Karen Johnston, of Harper Valley, and nephews, Geoffery Clifton, Gregory Clifton and Patrick Johnston.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Loretta Johnston.

Pallbearers will be Brent Horn, Johnathan Horn, Tanner Horn, Luke Johnston, Rick Sartor, Geoffery Clifton, Gregory Clifton and Patrick Johnston.

Honorary pallbearers will be J.D. Lemons, Kenneth Powell, Austin Davis, R.W. Sartor, Phil Hatridge and Chester Johnson.
