McALESTER —
Jack H. Ainsworth, 90, of Atoka, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, in Atoka.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. today at Stringtown Baptist Church with Dr. James Crowson officiating. Burial was at Kiowa Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Brown’s Funeral Service of Atoka.
Born July 10, 1922, in Stringtown, he was the son of Edward and Bell Ainsworth. He graduated from Stringtown High School and attended numerous military job related schools.
He retired as supervisor in special weapons at the United States Army Ammunition Depot.
He served his country in the U.S. Army in World War II. He was in Headquarter Company Combat Command B. 10th Armored Division and was with the first ground troop to arrive at the Battle of the Bulge in Bastogne, Belgium. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his service.
He married Media Ann Cox on Aug. 3, 1944, in Atoka.
He was a longtime member of Kiowa United Methodist Church, but had recently been affiliated with the Stringtown Baptist Church.
He was also a 32nd Degree Mason of the Kiowa Lodge.
Survivors include his son, David Ainsworth, of the home; daughter-in-law, Linda Ainsworth, of Ada; grandchildren, Lisa Ainsworth, of Konawa, Landa Ainsworth, of Portland, Ore., Andrea Ainsworth, of Dallas, and Zachery Ainsworth, of Dallas.
Also, brothers-in-law, Charley Cox and wife, Eleanor, of Kiowa, and Herb Cox, of Kiowa; nieces, Joyce Ainsworth, of Atoka, Doris Carpenter and husband, David, of Atoka, Lynda Oldham and husband, Larry, of Atoka, Mary Ellen Lillard and husband, Doug, of Norman, Julie Lambert, of Durant, and Violet Walton, of Arizona; nephews, David Isbell, of Nevada, Daryl Isbell, of New Mexico, and Gene Lambert, of Durant, and numerous other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Bell Ainsworth; his wife, Ann Ainsworth; son, Gary Ainsworth; brothers, Woodrow Ainsworth and Lee Ainsworth, and sisters, Eddie Hight, Lottie Isbell, Lora “Muggs” Self, Edith Lambert and Ora Irene Ainsworth.
Pallbearers were Sonny Richards, Randy Harris, Gary McDonald, Jim Marley, Jerry Elrod, David Kellogg, David Clark and Danny Hamilton.
Honorary pallbearers were Chester Edge, Johnny Holley, Robert Howard, Johnny Self, Kevin Hammit, Scott Hall, Steffan Brown and Dennis Holley.
