McALESTER —
Mary Jo Thompson, 82, of Krebs, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, in Sand Springs.
A Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at Chaney’s Memorial Chapel led by Father Kevin Willis.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Revs. Kevin Willis and Leo Ahanotu officiating. Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery in McAlester. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home of McAlester.
Born March 25, 1930, in Sioux City, Iowa, she was the daughter of Cyril and Joan (Costello) Perion. She received her bachelor of arts degree in elementary education from California State University at Longbeach, Calif.
She married Richard “Dick” Thompson on Aug. 30, 1958, in Van Huys, Calif., and moved their family to McAlester in 1971. She taught third and fourth grade for McAlester Public Schools at Emerson and Will Rogers until her retirement.
She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Krebs.
Survivors include her son, Stephen Thompson and wife, Bridget, of Red Oak; and daughters, Jane Meydag and husband, Pete, of Seminole, Fla., and Peggy Reichard and husband, Max, of Sand Springs.
Also, grandchildren, Katie Reichard, Erin Hearn, James Reichard and Mary Elizabeth Thompson; sister, Jane Spindler and husband, Bill, Woodland Hills, Calif.; sister-in-law, Barbara Perion, Dundee, Mich., and numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick, in 2002; parents, Cyril and Joan Perion, and, brother, John Perion.
Pallbearers will be Brian Perion, Jack Perion, Michael Perion, Dan Perion, Elex Herandy and James Reichard.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmie Talbot, David Prescott, Sam Magdalena, Richie Roe, Roger Johnston, Gary Roe and Guy Hudson.
Memorials may be made to St. Joseph’s Building Fund or St. Francis Hospice.
