Austin T. Evans

McALESTER — Austin T. Evans, 90, of McAlester, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at McAlester Regional Health Center.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Hugh Low Cemetery with the Rev. Jamie Kirkpatrick officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.

Born June 29, 1922, in Scipio, he was the son of Henry Austin and Bessie May Luttrell Evans. He was raised and attended schools in the Scipio and Hugh Low area. He was of the Christian faith.

He served in the United States Army during World War II, serving in the 363rd Field Artillery Battalion at the rank of corporal. He served from Oct. 26, 1942, until Jan. 15, 1946. While in the army he received decorations and citations, including the Bronze Arrowhead, Good Conduct Medal and The Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two stars.

He married Shirley A. (Daniels) Evans on July 21, 1983, in McAlester. He was a long haul truck driver.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Evans, of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Eddie and Judy Kimble, of Jay, Tracy and Bonnie Kimble, of Miami, and Larry and Michelle Kimble, Bentonville, Ark.; one daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Rick Whitaker, Mount Pleasant, Iowa.

Also, one brother, Tom and Helen Evans, of McAlester; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Gerri Blevins, of McAlester, LaVerne Ratzlaff, Salem, Ore., and Audrey Jones and husband, Tom, of McAlester, and six nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Bessie Evans; one brother, A.B. Evans, and his first wife, Viola Evans.

Pallbearers will be Eddie Kimble, Larry Kimble and Tracy Kimble.

Honorary pallbearers will be Brad Evans, Tom Evans, Hank Evans, Terry Evans, Ben Evans and Bill Evans.

Memorials may be made to Hugh Low Cemetery Association.
