McALESTER — Raymond Collins, 87, of McAlester, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at McAlester Regional Health Center.

A graveside service was held Saturday, Feb. 9, at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery, in McAlester, followed by interment. Military honors were provided by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard. Funeral arrangements were by Chaney Harkins Funeral Home in McAlester.

He was born Sept. 26, 1925, in Hunter, Okla. His parents were Rev. Thomas and Loree Collins. As a minister’s son, he moved frequently but spent several years in Yale, Okla.  He joined the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served during World War II. Following the war, he married Maggie Sue Patterson. They were married for 61 years. His working career consisted of owning a motel in Cherokee, working in body shop repair for General Motors and he retired from Tinker Air Force Base Civil Service as an electronic repairman. He had a knack for fixing things and was affectionately referred to as “Daddy Fix It” by his family.  Following retirement, he and Maggie were active members in their church in Paris, Texas. He was of the Baptist Faith.

He is survived by his son, Curt Collins, of Shawnee; daughter, Kathy Marshall and husband, Glen of McAlester; four grandchildren, several step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several step great-grandchildren; brother, John Collins, of California; several nieces and nephews; special friend, Ann Rigazzi, of McAlester; and his Burgundy Place family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Maggie Sue Collins, in 2004; parents, Rev. Tom and Loree Collins; daughter-in-law, Beverly Collins and sister, Mildred Flowers.
