McALESTER —
Margaret L. Girod, 98, of McAlester, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, at a local nursing center.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. today at Gussie Ely Memorial Chapel at Ashland Cemetery with Aaron Austin officiating. Burial was at Ashland Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.
Born May 17, 1914, in Phillips, she was the daughter of John Henry and Clara Marlow Gilpin Waldecker. She graduated from Coalgate High School.
She married Willie Olen “Bill” Girod on July 13, 1933, in Fort Smith, Ark. She owned and operated a beauty shop in Oklahoma City, worked as a real estate agent and retired from Tinker Air Force Base where she worked as an electronics technician.
She was a member of the Highland Church of Christ at Tecumseh. She enjoyed traveling, fishing, crocheting and sewing.
Survivors include a son, Hal Ray Girod, of Tecumseh; grandchildren, Dustin R. Fuller, Tony A. Girod and wife, LeAnn, and Justin A. Girod; great-grandchildren, Tyler Girod, Rayle Girod, Harley Girod, Trevor Girod, Dawn Fuller and Savanna Fuller; sisters-in-law, Barbara Girod, Almeta Reese and Juanita Girod, and numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Henry Waldecker and Clara Marlow Gilpin Waldecker; husband, Willie Olen “Bill” Girod; two sisters, Lorena and Lavinia; brothers, Carl Waldecker and Walter Waldecker, and an aunt, Edith.
