McALESTER —
Alice May Dunn, 83, of Tehachapi, Calif., died Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at her home.
Memorial services were today at Wood Family Funeral Service in Tehachapi.
Arrangements under the direction of Wood Family Funeral Service.
Born Jan. 3, 1930, in Missouri, she was the daughter of Evelyn and William Chancellor. Her father preceded her in death when she was 3 years old in the coal mines in Arkansas.
Her mother married Leonard Darby in 1934 in Wilburton.
She was a graduate of Hartshorne High School.
She married Richard Warren Dunn on June 9, 1946, in McAlester. They had a son, Kenneth Ray Dunn, and a daughter, Linda Kay Dunn LaVerne.
She raised her children in Tehachapi, Calif., and worked for more than 30 years in the food service business as a waitress at Tehachapi Bowling Alley Cafe.
She didn’t know a stranger, greeted all who entered with a smile and made many friends during her life there. She was well liked by many and loved very much by her family. She was a blessing to all who had the honor to know her. She enjoyed all of her six grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren and she will be greatly missed by them.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda Dunn LaVerne; daughter-in-law, Ruth Dunn; brother, Roy Darby; and sisters, Kathleen Darby Lowe, Loretta Darby Knapp, Imogene Darby Peck, Connie Darby Owen, Bonnie Darby Rider and Delores Darby Pingleton.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Evelyn Darby; husband, Richard Dunn; son, Ken Dunn; stepdad, Leonard Darby; sister, Norma Darby Neff, and brother, Ervin Darby.
