McALESTER — Matrel O. Williams, 81, of McAlester, Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at a local nursing home.

The family will greet friends from 2 to 4 p.m. today at Bishop Funeral Home.

Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Bishop Chapel of Memories. An interment will follow at Ulan Cemetery in the Ulan Community. Arrangements are under direction of Bishop Funeral Service. The Rev. Bill Kirk will officiate.

She was born on Feb. 26, 1931, in Indianola, to James “Johnny” Lawson and Mary Delta Haynes Harrelson. She grew up and attended schools in the Indianola area. Matrel married Melmer G. “Dick” Williams on June 7, 1948, in McAlester and were married for 59 years. She worked for Charles Komar and Sons and then for Henson-Kickernick where she was a supervisor. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church of McAlester. Matrel enjoyed sewing, quilting and cooking and taking care of her grandchildren.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Ronald K. and Susie Williams, of Fayetteville, N.C.; daughter and son-in-law, Annette and Gary Nichols, of Eufaula; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Eugene Harrelson, of Reedley, Calif., John E. and Ethel Harrelson, of Orange Cove, Calif., and Carroll and Robyn Harrelson, of Visalia, Calif.; 10 grandchildren and spouses, Haley and Jason Yott, of Bedford, Texas, Jordan G. Nichols, of Norman, Richard Williams, of Gause, Texas, Rhonda Williams, of Gause, Texas, Regina and Shannon Kizer, of Owasso, Christy and Clint Newton, of Charlotte, N.C.; Jenny and Brian Russell, of Charlotte, N.C., 23 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Ruby Ketchum, of Ulan, and Thelma Williams, of McAlester; cousin, Bill Kirk, of McAlester; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins,  and three special life-long friends, Clara Burnett, Ora Lee Dawson and Bonnie Storms.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Melmer G. “Dick” Williams.

Active pallbearers    are Shannon Kizer, Spencer Cunningham, Preston Cunningham, Richard Williams, Jordan Nichols and Jason Yott.
