James “Jim” A. Lienhard, 83, of McAlester

McALESTER — James “Jim” A. Lienhard, 83, of McAlester, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, in Oklahoma City.

A vigil is set tonight at 7 p.m. at the Bishop Chapel of Memories.

A Mass of Christian burial is at 10 a.m. Monday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in McAlester with the Rev. Leonard Higgins officiating. Burial will be Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the Mount Calvary Cemetery in McAlester.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.

He was born to Leon Victor and Ruth Marie (Barner) Lienhard on Jan. 14, 1930, in Slaton, Texas. He graduated from Wentworth Military Academy in 1951 and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

In 1958, he married Evelyn Hunke in Wichita, Kansas. He worked at Ketterman’s Bakery until 1962 when he moved his family to McAlester where he owned and operated Massey Bakery for 30 years. He was forced to retire due to an illness, which eventually led to a heart transplant. This miracle gave him another 21 years of life. He enjoyed playing golf with the Senior Thundercreek Golf Club, was a member of the St. John’s Knights of Columbus and enjoyed playing card games with his friends and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn, of the home; sons Paul Lienhard and wife, LeAnn, and Steve Lienhard; and daughter, Connie Deford and husband, Larry.

Also, nine grandchildren, Ashley Deford, Sarah Deford, Paul Deford, Alexa Lienhard, Will Lienhard, Bridget Lienhard, Hannah Lienhard, Joe Lienhard and D.J. Lienhard; a twin brother, William Lienhard and wife, Jeanine; a daughter-in-law, Julie Lienard; and several nieces and other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Ruth Lienhard; sister, Mary Catherine; and a nephew, Eric Lienhard.

Active pallbearers are Will Lienhard, Paul Deford, Joe Lienhard, D.J. Lienhard, Paul Zoller and Lloyd Flesher.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the St. John’s Knights of Columbus.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of McAlester or St. John’s Knights of Columbus.
