Nancy Marshall, 91, of McAlester

McALESTER — Nancy Marshall, 91, a longtime resident of the McAlester area, died Tuesday, Jan. 1. 2013, at her home.

Family will receive friends today from 6 to 7 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Chapel.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Brumley-Mills Chapel with Dr. Tom Murray officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.

Born in 1921, in Seattle, Wash., she grew up in California with her stepbrother, Marion Morrison, better known in the entertainment world as John Wayne. Aside from enjoying the global fame received by her brother, she also attended high school alongside the likes of well-known actress, Betty White.

After a short stint in modeling, she went to work for the United States Army during World War II, performing various administrative services, including dictation for her future husband, John Albert Marshall.

She and her husband eventually moved to the McAlester area in the 1970s, where she took on a role as an administrator for the McAlester Country Club.

She loved watching movies, especially of her late brother, and would occasionally attempt her hand at a game of bridge or the slot machines at the local casino.

Survivors include her son, John Marshall, Huntsville, Texas; her grandsons, Benn Marshall and wife, Melissa, and stepdaughter Kelsey Bloch, Plano, Texas, and Andy Marshall, Austin, Texas; her great-grandson, Beckham Marshall, Plano; her stepdaughter, Jackie Marshall, Lafayette, Calif., and her halfbrothers, Hal Buck, Yacolt, Wash., and Don Buck, Stockton, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Albert Marshall; her mother, Florence Rosetta Morrison; her stepfather, Clyde Leonard Morrison, and her stepbrother, Marion Robert Morrison.
