James T. ‘J.T.’ Collier

McALESTER — James T. “J.T.” Collier, 72, of McAlester, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012, at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa.

Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at Bishop Funeral Service.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Oak Hill Cemetery in McAlester with the Rev. James Crowson officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.

Born Aug. 13, 1940, in Sallisaw, he was the son of Scruggs and Katie (Coleman) Collier.

He graduated from McAlester High School in 1957.

He served as an officer in the United States Air Force as a navigator from 1961 to 1962.

He then graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1966 with a master’s degree of arts and worked as an architect.

He worked for architectural firms, Goleman and Rolfe from 1967 to 1969 and 1974 to 1975, Caudill, Rowlett, Scott from 1970 to 1973.

He co-owned and operated  Brooks-Collier from 1976 to 1995 and then owned and operated James T. Collier Associates from 1996 to 1998, all in Houston, Texas.

He was currently serving on the McAlester Regional Health Care Center Board of Directors.

He was also an active member of the Friends of the Library with the McAlester Public Library, assisting with the ongoing relocation and building project.

He was a co-founder, past president and current member of the Board of Directors for Pride in McAlester.

Survivors include his stepson, Glynn Fleming, Northport, Ala.; nephew, Bryan Whitworth, of McAlester; niece, Garla Westbrook, of McAlester, and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Scruggs Collier, in 1952; his mother, Katie Mae (Coleman) Collier, in 2007, and a sister, Linda Kay Whitworth, in 2007.

Pallbearers will be John C. Coffey, Mel Priddy, Weldon Smith, James Dunagin, M.D., Sam Mason and Dick Cornish.

Honorary pallbearer will be Kevin Priddle.
