Buffs' Skimbo wins state high jump title
McAlester senior Zach Skimbo jumped 6-foot-6 on his first attempt, beating Tahlequah's Brandon Conrad for the state high jump title at the 5A Track & Field Championships on Friday at Yukon.

Taylor Horne always dancing

Savanna’s Loud goes to Hillsdale
Savanna senior Sierra Loud signed to play softball at Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College on Wednesday at Savanna High School.

Dexter Brown shoots 267 at State
McAlester sophomore Dexter Brown finished strong at the 5A state golf tournament, shooting an 84 across the final 18 holes Tuesday at the Tulsa Country Club. Combined with a 91 and then a 92 on Monday, Brown finished 59th overall with a 267.

Buffs tennis heads to State
The McAlester Buffaloes accomplished what they needed to at Monday’s regional tennis tournament in Duncan, qualifying all six varsity players to Friday’s 5A state tournament at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center.

Baseball season starts for Boys & Girls Club
The McAlester Boys & Girls Club kicked off its spring baseball and softball seasons Monday, when 12 teams’ worth of 3- and 4-year-old boys and girls gathered at the Bud Hale Sports Complex for t-ball. Boys & Girls Club athletic director Terry Green said Tuesday that 437 kids ages 3 to 12 have signed up this spring, leading to 36 teams spread across seven different leagues.

2 Buffs, 6 Demonettes make All-Star Game
The Atoka Sports Complex will host its first annual Choctaw Nation All-Star Games on Monday at 6 p.m. Eleven local baseball and slowpitch softball players have been selected to participate.

McAlester track qualifies nine to 5A state meet
Even with limited practice opportunities, the Buffs and Lady Buffs still qualified nine to the 5A State Track & Field Championship, which starts Friday morning at Yukon.

Adebayo’s Eastern jersey to hang in Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame
In recognition of her outstanding play and record-breaking season, Eastern Oklahoma State College sophomore Shola Adebayo will see her Lady Mountaineer jersey hang in the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in Knoxville, Tenn.
