Pitt 8 Conference Tournament, Day 6

Hornets and Lady Bulldogs crowned 2013 tournament champions

McALESTER — The 98th annual Pitt 8 Conference Tournament concluded on Saturday at the Southeast Expo Center in McAlester, with the Stuart Lady Hornets kicking off the final day with a commanding 65-47 victory against the Crowder Demonettes in the girls' consolation final. In a far more competitive boys' consolation final, the Crowder Demons overcame an 11-point deficit in the final four minutes of the game to stun the Haileyville Warriors with a 56-55 win.

Just like the consolation finals, the girls' championship proved far less suspenseful than the boys', with the Savanna Lady Bulldogs leading for most of their game against the Kiowa Cowgirls and ultimately winning, 62-45. Though Kiowa entered the Pitt 8 as the top seed and the defending tournament champion, Savanna dominated the game to regain the trophy, having last won it in 2011.

And in the boys' championship, the Stuart Hornets put the Canadian Cougars in early foul trouble, then shot 11-for-16 in the fourth quarter to help clinch a 53-51 win. Stuart has now won the last four Pitt 8 Conference Tournaments.
