McALESTER — David Holt, softball coach at Carl Albert State College in Poteau, had watched McAlester senior shortstop Cheyenne Conklin ever since Conklin was a freshman. Even then, he said, she looked like a player destined for college ball.
Destiny became reality Tuesday morning at the Lucy Smith Center at McAlester High School, when Conklin signed and accepted her athletic scholarship to join the Carl Albert Vikings.
“We were very happy to get her,” Colt said.
“We think she is a player that’s ready to go — that she’s going to step in immediately and make an impact on our team.”
