SAVANNA — Savanna softball has started its season red-hot, winning their first 10 games behind a dominating stretch of pitching from junior Bryn Houlton. Already verbally committed to the University of Kansas, Houlton has averaged better than seven strikeouts a game, throwing three one-hitters, two no-hitters and a perfect game.
“We have a great team this year,” Savanna coach Angie Wilson wrote in an e-mail. “We were state semifinalists last year and have eight returning starters.”
Houlton’s pitching carried the Lady Dawgs at times during their run through the Panama Lady ‘Back Classic this past weekend, with Houlton pitching three shutouts through the first four games. In Savanna’s first game, against McCurtain, Houlton struck out nine and gave up just three hits.
