Local All-Conference selections released

McALESTER — The basketball season has finally come to an end. Now it’s time to honor the players, coaches and teams that made the season great with this year’s All-Conference selections.

On the boys’ side of the Pitt 8 Conference, the Canadian Cougars won the regular-season championship. For helping the Cougars take home the title, Chase Shearwood, Dakota Mize and Caleb Jarrett all won All-Conference honors.

Shearwood also won Pitt 8 boys’ Player of the Year. Canadian coach Daniel Lokey was named Pitt 8 boys’ Coach of the Year.

On the girls’ side, the Savanna Lady Bulldogs won the regular-season championship. Lady Dawgs Bryn Houlton — the Pitt 8 girls’ Player of the Year — Destanie Barlow and Cierra Graham all were named All-Conference.

Wilburton's Kelbie Moon was named MVP of the Black Diamond Conference.

The Pittsburg County Little League season is nearly over. The Big 13 division began its week-long championship tournament Monday, and the other divisions’ final tournaments begin next week.

Arizona beat Colorado in Wednesday's championship, 5-2, for the state's first Jr. Sunbelt Classic title since 2008. Having joined the Sunbelt in 2009, Colorado had never qualified for the finals before this year.
