Yellowjackets bury Miners in consolation semifinal

MUSKOGEE — It didn’t matter if the Westville Yellowjackets needed to move the ball a few feet or the entire court, because their passes always found their targets.

With flawless passing keeping Hartshorne’s defense on its heels, the Miners just couldn’t stop Hershell Gifford.

Gifford scored 26 points on 13 baskets, leading the Yellowjackets to a 64-46 win against the Miners in Saturday’s 3A regional consolation semifinal at the Muskogee Civic Center.

Despite the loss, Hartshorne still finished with an 8-17 record — five more wins than last year, including the first postseason win in three years, according to coach Jeff Beare.

Westville improved to 15-9 with the win.
