NORMAN — McAlester’s defense bent from time to time during their game against Choctaw at Friday’s Top of the World Scrimmage in Norman, but it never broke. Whenever the Yellowjackets started sniffing the end zone, a Buffalo defender always made a play.
No one on defense made more plays than defensive end Nick Eldridge.
Eldridge scored two defensive touchdowns, and quarterback Dalton Wood threw for 116 yards and two touchdowns, powering the Buffaloes to a 27-0 preseason win over the Yellowjackets.
McAlester’s first offensive drive stalled at the Choctaw 34 when Wood took his second sack in three plays. Wood shook off the hits, however, and executed a perfect punt, bouncing it inside the 10 and giving his teammates enough time to track the football and down it inside the 1. Choctaw tried to run it up the middle on their first play from scrimmage, but McAlester’s aggressive defenders stripped the ball, and Eldridge recovered it in the end zone for a 6-0 lead.
