CLAREMORE — For the McAlester Buffaloes, victory seemed assured Friday night. Up seven, they’d consumed most of the fourth quarter with a 15-play drive, forcing the Claremore Zebras to drive 83 in just over two-minutes to tie the game.
Then Claremore quarterback Matt Whatley connected with wide receiver Dustin Basks on a 34-yard pass, and the game fell apart.
Whatley followed up his 34-yarder with a 15-yard touchdown pass to Caleb Webster to tie the game with 48.0 seconds left, then found Webster again in overtime to complete the comeback and beat the Buffaloes, 21-20, Friday night at Lantow Field. The Buffs head into district play next week 0-3, while the Zebras improved to 3-0.
