Playoff Update: Frink-Chambers, Tannehill reach State

Kiowa wins regional tournament

McALESTER — • ORES

It wasn’t the easiest route to the Organization of Rural Elementary Schools state tournament, but the Frink-Chambers Lady Falcons pulled it off. Frink-Chambers recovered from a 46-13 loss to Woodall in the Area III Final on Thursday and beat Lukfata 30-26 in Saturday’s Area III Consolation Final to reach the Division I girls’ state tournament.

Frink-Chambers will play Briggs today at 5 p.m. at Earlsboro High School. The state tournament is single elimination, and if Frink-Chambers advances, it will play in the semi-finals on Friday at 5 p.m. at Shawnee High School.

The finals will take place Saturday at 7:10 p.m. at Shawnee.

Tannehill’s girls will also play in the Division III state tournament. Tannehill lost to Cottonwood in the Area III Final on Thursday, 39-35, but came back two days later and beat Pleasant Grove in the consolation final, 43-39, to advance.

Tannehill will play Rocky Mountain in the first round of the Division III state tournament today at 5 p.m. at Seminole State College in Seminole. The semi-finals will take place on Friday at 5 p.m. at Seminole State, the finals on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at Shawnee High School.

• OSSAA Class A

The Kiowa Cowgirls’ quest for a state title continues unhindered. Kiowa beat Boswell 75-49 in Thursday’s regional semi-final, then beat Turner 66-56 two days later to win a regional championship at home.

The Cowgirls will next play Friday at 6:30 p.m, when they face Dewar in the Area IV Championship at the Southeast Expo Center in McAlester. The winner automatically qualifies for the state tournament, while the loser will play Saturday in the consolation championship, the winner of which also qualifies for state.
