Cowboys finish 2012 10-5

ADA — The Kiowa Cowboys basketball team ended the 2012 portion of its season 10-5. Kiowa beat Colbert 62-47 on Dec. 18, and with 60 percent of the season done, boys’ coach Keith Quaid opted to give his players off until the new year.

“We only have 10 games before the playoffs hit, so our legs are a little bit gone,” Quaid said Thursday before the Cowgirls played Union in the first round of the Bertha Frank Teague Mid-America Classic at East Central University in Ada. “So a little break is always good.”

This season is Quaid’s second as Cowboys head coach. At this same point a season ago, the 2011-12 Cowboys had gone just 5-7.

Last year’s team, Quaid said, featured four players with little prior varsity experience. The five-win improvement over a similar stretch of time this season shows how much of a difference a year of playing time can mean.
