SAVANNA — Savanna High School’s softball team has started the 2012 fastpitch season red-hot. At 14-3, the team is currently ranked third in 2A by OKrankings.com, the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association’s official ranking site.
A big reason why: Bryn Houlton, the junior pitching phenom who has handled all 87 innings the Lady Dawgs have played this year. In 17 games so far, Houlton has thrown three perfect games, two no-hitters and three one-hitters. She averages over seven strikeouts per game, with both an earned run average and walks-and-hits-per-inning ratio well below 1.00.
“Why she’s so successful is she’s not very excitable,” Savanna coach Angie Wilson said Wednesday. “Very calm, kind of shy, but I think that kind of adds to her ability, because she’s very calm, and nothing rattles her. She’s just the same personality all the time.”
