Know Your Foe: East Central

Buffs face Cardinals in 5A Semifinals

McALESTER — As some media outlets have frequently pointed out, the McAlester Buffaloes lost a lot of talent at the end of last season. This is a rebuilding year for the Buffs, some said, and their 6-4 regular season proved they weren’t as good as last year.

The only problem: no one told the Buffaloes that. Instead, this frequently derided team has made it all the way to the 5A state semifinals.

“You couldn’t ask for anything more exciting than to be playing in a semifinal back-to-back years, especially how our year started out,” Buffs coach Bryan Pratt said Tuesday.

The semifinals take place Friday night at Rougher Stadium in Muskogee, which is where Pratt’s coaching career began. The Buffs will take on the East Central Cardinals, a district championship team whose 8-4 record matches McAlester’s.
