McALESTER — Two junior high softball teams from the McAlester area will compete at Hartshorne’s fast-pitch softball tournament. The Lady Falcons of Frink-Chambers will have pool play games Monday at 4:00 p.m. and 5:15, and the Junior Buffaloes of Puterbaugh will play Tuesday at 4:00 and 6:30 p.m.
Six players return this season from the Lady Falcons squad that won last year’s Hartshorne Tournament but lost in the Organization of Rural Elementary Schools Pool Play tournament. That group includes eighth-grade infielders Brynn Vaughan, Morgan Loud and Lauren Coggin — all excellent defensive players, according to assistant coach Robert Vaughan.
That excellence might come from their speed, and Vaughan said the Lady Falcons should bunt and steal quite a bit this season.
“We have a lot of team speed, so we’ll be playing a lot of smallball,” he said
