McALESTER — Most bowlers will never bowl an 800 series over three games. Most bowlers will never even bowl a perfect 300 in a single game — an easier feat by most bowlers’ standards.
Terry Martin, a 64-year-old retired United States Air Force mechanic and then postal worker from McAlester, has bowled both an 800 series and a 300 series. In fact, he’s done both a whopping three times.
But despite so many times reaching the pinnacles of bowling, Martin said Wednesday that his favorite memory of the sport occurred on a night in Abilene, Tex., when he DIDN’T top out.
“I had just joined this, I think it was a Monday-night league,” Martin said. “About the second or third night that I bowled, I bowled the first game, I started off with 11 straight strikes. And then I threw a perfect on my 12th shot and left the 7-pin.”
