McALESTER — Every volleyball play begins with the serve. It makes everything else — the digs, the sets, the spikes, the blocks — possible, and without it, a team can’t score.
Such wasn’t the case for McAlester Thursday, where the Lady Buffaloes served up 17 aces, propelling them to a season-opening five-set victory over the Noble Bears at Bob Brumley Gymnasium. The scores were 25-22, (25-18), 24-13, (25-21), 15-11.
“Everything started with our serves,” said MHS coach Chad Waller. “Our serves came in, it was just like we had a whole different mentality on this side of the net that even if we had a long rally that lasted forever, we were coming out the winner of it.”
