HARTSHORNE — Hartshorne coach Bill Williams doesn’t like to use freshmen in varsity games. Between the pressure and the physical differences between a 14- and 18-year-old, the risks just out-weigh the rewards.
But when one of Hartshorne’s starting cornerbacks broke his collarbone in Week 1 of the 2010 season, Williams had little choice but to put in freshman Kolton Montgomery.
“He ended up having 11 interceptions that year and returned three of them for touchdowns,” Williams said Saturday.
