McALESTER — The McAlester Buffaloes’ preseason continues Friday night with a trip to Norman for the Top of the World Scrimmage. With eight teams competing, this seccond scrimmage should be a strong indicator of where MHS ranks among the state’s best teams.
Top of the World will open with situational scrimmages similar to last week’s activities in Wagoner. On one side of the field, two teams will each get 10 minutes to play offense against each other’s defense, starting each drive at the 35-yard-line.
That leaves six teams to a round-robin scrimmage on the opposite end of the field. Each defense will face three offensive plays from three different teams, then everyone will rotate.
The ninth-grade team begins its scrimmage at 5 p.m., with the junior varsity taking over at 6. The varsity will take the field at 7. For any Buffs fans making the drive, the varsity srimmage will just be a precursor to the real fun, which begins when McAlester and Choctaw face off in an actual football game at 8:15.
