Heath Hogan always moving forward

McALESTER — McAlester’s running game has been almost unstoppable this season. But the running game doesn’t start with the runners — it starts with the offensive line.

Because of that, senior left guard and o-line leader Heath Hogan has been essential to all those rushing yards and touchdowns his teammates have generated. And as long as the Buffs keep moving forward, Hogan said he considers his performance successful.

“On the line, we just do our job,” Hogan said Thursday. “Just make sure I get my block so that we can get a gain and not a loss.”

Hogan lives in Arpelar, a town located about 12 miles west of McAlester. He’s always been part of the McAlester school system, growing up watching the Buffs on Friday nights and playing football since the third grade.

Hogan played both offense and defense up until he joined the varsity. Moving exclusively to offense, he said, has allowed him to concentrate on playing one position as well as he can instead of trying to split his energy between two.

“Everybody has a job, and mine’s the offensive line, and I was fine with that,” Hogan said.
