CANADIAN — The Canadian Cougars beat the Seminole Chieftains JV squad Saturday night, 28-0. Paired with a 30-14 win over Caddo last Friday, Canadian has gone 2-0 in its first season in Class A — an 11-man football conference, instead of the 8-man Canadian is used to — with both victories coming on the road.
“I’ve been surprised, to say the least,” Cougars coach Mike Turney said Tuesday. “My kids seem energetic. They’ve been working real, real hard. They’ve been really good tackling on defense and swarming the ball.”
Turney said one key so far has been balancing the Cougars’ running and passing game. That balance showed itself in Saturday’s win, with the Cougars scoring two rushing touchdowns and two passing touchdowns.
