Playoffs send McAlester to 2 sites
This week’s opening Class 5A regional basketball playoffs for McAlester’s boys and girls teams are significantly different in both location and the strength of field at their regional sites.

Storm cuts Buff scrimmage to 5-inning win
Monday evening’s rains may have been felt in McAlester, but McAlester’s baseball scrimmage with the Cougars in Ada was shortened to five innings due to severe spring-like thunderstorm storm activity.

Wrestling Champion

Frink Chambers Girls Basketball
In Saturday afternoon game action at Lone Star School near Sapulpa, the Frink Lady Falcons defeated the girls’ team from Grandview to secure a berth in the 2012 ORES state playoffs. The Lady Falcons will play their first game in the 2012 state playoffs against South Rock Creek at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Gregory’s College in Shawnee. Frink Chambers Boys Basketball
Both the boys and girls 7th and 8th grade basketball teams from Frink Chambers School will compete in Division 1 state playoff action hosted by the Organization of Rural Elementary Schools beginning this February 24 at St. Gregory’s College in Shawnee. The Frink Falcons won the Division 1 area championship with a victory over the North Rock Creek Cougars at Lone Star School near Sapulpa. The Falcons begin state playoff action at 6 p.m. Thursday against Woodall in the Shawnee college gymnasium. Cowgirls dominate in regionals
The Class A seventh-ranked girls from Kiowa came into Saturday night’s regional championship game undefeated in the playoffs as they faced 13th-ranked Wright City at Wilburton. The Pitt 8 Conference Champion Cowgirls jumped out to an early lead in the game and never looked back.

McAlester Buffs qualify for Individual State Wrestling Tournament in OKC
A “freshman phenom” wrestler for McAlester has qualified for this week’s 5A Individual State Wrestling Tournament in Oklahoma City, while three other MHS wrestlers came in fifth or sixth in their respective weight classes, narrowly missing advancing to state.
