McAlester man accused of rape, burglary and sodomy

McALESTER — A McAlester man was recently accused of repeatedly burglarizing the home of a 45-year-old woman and raping her repeatedly.

Paul Anthony Savala, 45, was charged Friday in Pittsburg County District Court with first degree rape, forcible oral sodomy, forcible anal sodomy, first degree burglary and misdemeanor transmitting a threat.

According to court records, Savala allegedly broke into a residence on the southwest side of McAlester and sexually assaulted the woman living there. Court records indicate that Savala allegedly continued this behavior from April through October. During these alleged sexual assaults, court records indicate that Savala would allegedly tie the woman’s hands and blindfold her.

The alleged victim told police that Savala allegedly threatened to hurt her children and grandchildren if she told anyone about the assaults, court records state. The alleged victim also told police that Savala assaulted her 20 or more times over the seven-month period.

McAlester Police Det. Capt. Gary Wansick said that when police interviewed Savala regarding the alleged sexual assaults, Savala said that he had an ongoing consensual sexual relationship with the alleged victim.

Savala was arrested and booked into the Pittsburg County jail on Friday. He is being held in lieu of a $200,000 bond and was unavailable for comment at presstime today.

If convicted, Savala is facing up to life imprisonment.
