Mayor signs proclamation declaring 2012 as the Year of the Girl

McALESTER — March 12 marked the 100th anniversary of the Girl Scout movement, which began when Savannah, Ga., native Juliette “Daisy” Gordon Low gathered 18 girls to provide them the opportunity to develop physically, mentally and spiritually.

On Nov. 26, McAlester Mayor Steve Harrison, joined by a group of Girl Scout Daisies and Brownies at the McAlester Girl Scout Service Center, signed a proclamation declaring 2012 as the Year of the Girl.

Asked about the experience, Skylar and Arial, two Daisies who attended the signing, said “It was awesome!”
