Shari Cooper, the new director of the McAlester Economic Development Service, is defending a decision to move the MEDS headquarters from the city’s Southeast Expo Center.
When she addressed the city council on Tuesday night, Cooper said MEDS will be moving to the Warren Gotcher office building. Gotcher, of course, is a well-known attorney from McAlester, whose offices are at 323 E. Carl Albert Pkwy.
Cooper also criticized the tone of an e-mail sent regarding the move, written by Ward 6 City Councilor Sam Mason, who was not at the meeting.
Mayor Kevin Priddle said that Mason had relayed a message prior to the meeting that his wife was ill, and he wasn’t feeling too well himself, so he might not be able to attend the council meeting.
