New fire station in Scipio in the works

McALESTER — A new fire station is planned for the Scipio area, according to county officials.

Plans include a new building large enough to house a full fire department including two engines and a fire tanker along with other equipment, according to Trent Myers Tannehill Fire Chief.

Myers is also the cheif for Scipio and he said he has six volunteers for the Scipio area.

He said the equipment they will use is already at the Tannehill Fire Department.

And once the building is complete, Myers said he will move some of the trucks and equipment to Scipio which cut response time.

“Right now we have to drive 10 miles to get to a fire in the Scipio area,” Myers said.

“The new fire station will really improve our response time, Myers said.

The building will be purchased with funds provided by the Pittsburg County Fire Tax, he said.

Meanwhile bids for the construction of the new building were opened but not awarded at Monday’s meeting of the Pittsburg County Commissioners.
