Javersak finishes MetroPCS Dallas Marathon

McALESTER — Finishing the MetroPCS Dallas Marathon in memory of her 8-year-old son wasn’t easy but McAlester Chiropractor Dr. Andrea Javersak said she knew she could do it.

Javersak’s 8-year-old son, Trevon died of cerebral palsy on Dec. 7, 2011. Trevon was the brother to three siblings, Tallon, 12, Teagen, 6, and Torrance, 4. On Dec. 9, in memory of her son, Andrea Javersak ran the Dallas Marathon. She said this was her first marathon and she completed the 26.2 miles in 4 hours and 15 minutes. And she said quitting was never an option because her son was never able to walk, but he never quit trying. “While I was running I just kept thinking about my son; he would have loved to be able to run,” she said. “I couldn’t quit because he would never quit.” She said others with cerebral palsy participating in the marathon also motivated her.

One of the highlights of completing the marathon, Javersak said, was seeing her friend Suzanne Garner at the finish line. “She’s always told me,‘Yes, you can do this,’”Javersak said. Meanwhile, she said getting through the grief of losing her son takes a lot of effort, but she said she has a plan.

“I set new goals and I don’t make excuses,” Javersak said. Besides maintaining her chiropractic office in McAlester, running marathons and raising her children, she also volunteers for the McAlester Boys and Girls Club, where she was recently named Volunteer of the Year for teaching gymnastics.

But she isn’t done yet. She said she still has another goal. “I would like to run a triathlon,” Javersak said. Contact Jeanne LeFlore at jleflore@mcalesternews.com.
