For the second time in less than two weeks a Wal-Mart employee has been charged in Pittsburg County District Court with embezzling from the store.
Justin Lynn Taylor, 20, Wilburton, was charged Wednesday with a felony count of embezzlment. He is alleged to have taken almost $1,100 from the Wal-Mart Supercenter between Nov. 3 and Tuesday, according to court documents.
Taylor worked in the store’s automotive department, according to store officials. He is no longer employed by Wal-Mart.
If convicted of the felony charge, Taylor could be sentenced to up to five years imprisonment, fined up to $5,000 and ordered to pay restitution.
The charge against Taylor is the second embezzlement charge filed against a former Wal-Mart employee in less than two weeks. Cletis D. Lowe Jr. was charged with a misdemeanor count of the crime earlier this month.
“With over 1.3 million associates in the United States, this kind of thing does happen from time to time,” said Sharon Webber, a Wal-Mart spokeswoman. “We take no pleasure in firing anyone, so things are usually investigated very carefully before that ever happens.”
What if an employee is found innocent at trial?
“As a general rule, we look at those on a case by case basis,” Webber said.
