County workers will get 13 1/2 paid holidays for 2013

McALESTER —  

The Pittsburg County commissioners approved 13 1/2 paid holidays for county employees during their regular meeting on Monday at the Pittsburg County Courthouse.
According to the 2013 schedule, county employees will have News Years Day, Jan. 1; Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Jan. 21; Presidents Day, Feb. 18; Good Friday,March 29; Memorial Day, May 27; Independence Day, July 4; Labor Day Sept. 2; Columbus Day, Oct. 14 and Veterans Day, Nov. 1. County employees will also receive one half day and two full paid holidays for Thanksgiving starting with a half day on Nov. 27 and full days for Nov. 28 and Nov. 29 and Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, and Christmas Day, Dec. 25.
“We try to keep the same number each year,” said District 2 Commissioner Kevin Smith.
“Some years it’s a day more and some years it’s a day less.”
Last year the commissioners added an additional paid holiday, Tuesday, Dec. 27 to follow the Monday, Dec. 26, paid holiday to the 2012 holiday schedule when  Christmas eve and Christmas Day fell on a weekend.
Also attending Monday’s meeting was Commission Chairman District 1 Commissioner Gene Rogers and District 3 Commissioner Ronnie Young.
The Pittsburg County Commissioners meet every Monday at 9 a.m. in the county commissioner’s conference room at the Pittsburg County Courthouse. The meetings are open to the public.
