10K giveway set for Dec. 20

McALESTER — Five minutes. That’s all that could be standing between one lucky person and $10,000 during the 18th annual 10K McAlester Cash Giveaway on Dec. 20.

More than 80 local businesses from McAlester and Hartshorne are participating in the event this year, according to Julie Horton a long time organizer of the event.
“Once your name is called you have minutes to five minutes get to the podium with your I.D. or to notify one of the officers stationed on Choctaw Avenue that you are headed our way,” Horton said.
Horton said she and the members of the McAlester Promotions Committee have been working since mid-August to coordinate the event that brings thousands of local residents downtown for a chance to win $10,000.
Committee member James Tannehill said the winner will be drawn from a pool of more than 800,000 tickets.
The big drawing will be held at 7 p.m. at Choctaw Avenue near Main Street and winners must be present with identification to collect the prize, Horton said. “We will also have several drawings for other prizes too.”
She said the winners from the smaller prizes will be reentered into the big drawing.
Horton said to get a ticket visit a participating business and receive one free ticket just for visiting the business and another ticket for each $10 spent up to $1,000.
