The Shady Grove Volunteer Fire Department was in full action Thanksgiving Day responding to a brush fire near State Highway 113 in Pittsburg County. Shady Grove Fire Chief Bill Crenshaw said he has no doubt in his mind that the fire resulted from an act of arson.
“The call came in at about 10:42 a.m.,” Crenshaw said. “And we got there within about five minutes. We were out there till after 2 p.m. fighting the fire.”
Crenshaw said there was no structural damage and no injuries as a result of the fire. The 14 Shady Grove firefighters responded to the call with two brush trucks and a tanker truck, Crenshaw said. “And we had some other firemen on standby.”
The fire that burned approximately five acres on John and Gracie O’Neal’s property was arson, Crenshaw said. “There ain’t no doubt in my mind about that.”
John O’Neal said he was very impressed with the Shady Grove Volunteer Fire Department. They responded quickly and worked very hard to put out the fire, he said.
